Nzube Ndiokwelu, Race Director of Coal Metropolis Worldwide Marathon, disclosed this to the Information Company of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Saturday.
Ndiokwelu mentioned that the overseas athletes had registered on-line and been issued invitational letters to facilitate their travelling documentation and visas to Nigeria.
“We’ve got mechanism on how we settle for worldwide athletes and we at the moment have athletes coming from seven nations that indicated their pursuits via their numerous nationwide athletes’ federations.
“We’ve got overseas athletes from Ethiopia, Kenya, Mali, South Africa, Niger, Uganda and Cameroon.
“Amongst some Kenya athletes issued invitational letters are: Bernard Bosuben, Esther Chesang Kakuri, Nelly Jepkurui, Geoffrey Kirwa, Abraham Kipkemei Biwott, Nicholas Rop and Benjamin Kipkemei.
“These are each female and male athletes. We even have Nguetsa Liliane, a feminine athlete from Cameroon.
“That is simply to say a number of that had already indicated curiosity via their nationwide athletes’ federations and have already acquired our invitational letters.
“So, we’re going to have elite worldwide athletes coming for the 2019 version,’’ he mentioned.
In line with him, the quantity has surpassed the 17 overseas athletes that participated within the 2018 version of the race.
He disclosed that the organisers had secured seven sponsors and companions for the marathon.
